#9 - Alternative Responses

FOOD

The food item I think of with this book is candy because of Riri’s desire for something she’s never known. It also makes me think of a little story I heard as a child, that Indigenous had good teeth until sugar cane was brought over by colonialists, and then people started getting cavities and tooth decay. So, while I’d like to give Riri some bright pink candy, it also makes me recognize the problems it caused when introduced.

TIMELINE OF FIVE EVENTS: Frenchie

1. He watched his brother get taken by Recruiters as he hid up a tree.

2. Miig found him, then they found all the others and became a group.

3. He didn't shoot the moose because of his concern for humanity.

4. Riri is killed, and he goes back to kill the man the rest have tied up. It's a shocking moment.

5. Minerva is taken and he decides to go after her to get her back.
